McDonalds has signed a three year sponsorship agreement with the Football Association of Thailand which could be worth around $1m for the Football Association. The three year contract will begin from November and was announced at a major function in Bangkok involving current Thai internationals.
Although Thailand have not qualified for next year’s World Cup, the country’s Football Association has persuaded former Manchester United and England midfielder Bryan Robson to become Thailand’s new manager.
McDonalds, who will pay around Bt25 million (US$746,000) in cash, plus around Bt5 million (US$149,000) in products, join the likes of Chang and Nike as sponsors of Thai football. Excluding McDonalds the other sponsors are believed to provide the Thai Association with around Bt80 million (US$2.3 million) annually.
The overall value of the McDonalds deal is Bt90 million (US$2.69 million)
