Man City refuse to comment on ground expansion rumours
Plans are said to be at a “very early stage,” although talks are understood to have been held at boardroom level about expanding the stadium to match the ambition of its owners, the Abu Dhabi United Group.
The club is hoping for a big increase in the average gate this season off the back of several multi-million pound signings on the pitch. City's first home game of the season, against Wolves on Saturday, has not sold out, though.
The club would also like to build a new training ground next to the stadium as well as developing the rest of the sports city site in East Manchester, and is in advanced discussions with Manchester City Council, which owns the stadium, about how best to progress plans for the area.
A Manchester City Council spokesman said: "We value our working relationship with the club and understand their ambitions. However, it would be inappropriate to comment at this stage based on media speculation."
